“Defending freedoms, serving families … together” is what we’ve been doing since we were first founded in 1990. It’s the bedrock of who we are and why we exist.

Not so many years ago, West Virginians had very limited homeschool freedoms. In fact, legislative issues still arise that threaten the future of homeschooling in West Virginia – more often than you might think. The good news is that CHEWV has been committed to doing whatever it takes to defend your freedoms and to serve families all across this great state for over 30 years. We’re at the Capitol and in legislative meetings. We answer family-specific questions. We network with state and national leaders. And we do it “together” – with families like yours.

We firmly believe that the homeschooling freedoms we collectively enjoy, are the gift of God. Because we believe that parental, religious, and homeschooling freedoms are endowed by our Creator and protected in our Constitution, we advocate from a strong position. As a result, the freedoms of all law-abiding families, Christian or not, are defended.

CHEWV is a ministry established to encourage and support West Virginia families in the exercise and defense of their God-given responsibility and Constitutional freedom to train and educate their children at home.

The Cogars make their home in Bridgeport where they homeschool three of their kids and boast one homeschool graduate, now in college. In addition to coordinating graduation, they assist with long-term CHEWV planning.

The Kincells, from Morgantown, primarily oversee CHEWV’s media. They homeschooled their three daughters, all of whom are now graduated, for over sixteen years. They now enjoy three preschool-aged homeschooling grands.

The newest board couple, the Morrises have been overseeing Homeschool 101 resources for the past several years. They reside outside Morgantown where they homeschool  their three children and lead a youth robotics program.

The Shutlers oversee our popular High School Seminars. Seasoned homeschool parents of four, they have coordinated CHEWV’s graduation reception for the past several years.

The Summerses are the coordinators of Home School Day at the Capitol and oversee member services. The parents of two homeschool graduates, they hail from Clay County.

After homeschooling in the Charleston area for 15 years, Paul and Terri recently graduated their third and final homeschooler. Now they bring that vast experience to their role as liaison to support groups, co-ops, and community groups.

The testing area is an important function and CHEWV is grateful for the Prices’ tireless service. Residing in Reedsville, WV, they have four homeschool graduates and three grandchildren – so far.
